The Nunc Dimittis is the fifth movement of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s monumental a cappella choral masterwork, the All-Night Vigil, Op. 37. The movement has an incredibly static, peaceful, and comforting quality. The accompanying choral voices sway in a gentle, slow rocking motion featuring two-note descending figures. This specific arrangement mimics the serene cadence of a lullaby. In this string arrangement the viola carries the beautiful melody.
