This trio for three violins was originally written for two violins, bass and organ. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Church Sonata No. 4 is a brief, elegant chamber work composed around late 1766 or early 1767 in Salzburg. The piece reflects the Galant style of the mid-18th century—graceful, light, and focused on clear melodies. Because of the strict time limits imposed by Archbishop Colloredo (who required the entire Mass to last no more than 45 minutes), the sonata is quite concise, typically lasting under 4 minutes.
