Composed by the prominent Czech modernist Vítězslav Novák, "Bohemian Dances, No. 1" (arranged here for string quartet) is a vibrant, high-energy work that masterfully blends traditional Czech folk idioms with early 20th-century harmonies. It features a brilliant, slight jazz flair, syncopated drive, and rich, colorful modulations that give it a fresh and sophisticated character.

Rhythmic Vitality & Syncopation: This piece is an excellent study in advanced rhythm. Students will navigate complex syncopations, off-beat accents, and driving cross-rhythms, demanding strict internal pulse and absolute rhythmic precision from every member of the quartet.
